    10 Success Killers

    October 31st, 2007 by admin

    Dear Friends,

For years now I’ve collected articles and reports that catch my attention when I read them. Whether it’s a business-related publication, a newspaper, or one of the magazines I like to pick up when I dash through the train station or airport, I seldom put one down without having ripped out something  that resonates with me.

    Handling Generational Diversity

    October 30th, 2007 by admin
    diverse team

    Dear Friends,

Diversity has many faces, and it’s not only a question of racial, ethnic or gender differences.

The way in which the generations work together hasn’t been left unaffected. With the many rapid changes taking place in the workplace, traditional structures and formal hierarchies are no longer the most effective way to work.

The website Women For Hire features an insightful article called “Handling Generational Diversity” which pinpoints some of the generational myths still common in the workplace. The article also highlights areas in which people on either side of the age divide risk falling into the trap of stereotyping:

    • Authority and Hierarchy
    • Money and Advancement
    • Technology
    • Communication Styles

Some Quit and Leave…Others Quit and Stay

    October 26th, 2007 by admin

    Dear Friends,

Is the grass really greener on the other side?

That’s the question employers should be asking themselves every time someone voluntarily leaves their company. Most people realize how much more efficient it is to increase business via existing clients. For some managers, however, staff turnover is simply one of the costs of doing business. The word apparently has not gotten around to them just how much more profitable it is for a company to motivate and effectively apply the skills of existing employees than it is to continuously train new hires.

    Connecting with your Audience

    October 24th, 2007 by admin

    Dear Friends,

Here are some tips meister blogger Penelope Trunk passed on to her league of avid readers on the art of public speaking:

    1. Tell stories
    2. Look directly and deeply at individuals in the audience
    3. Be honest about how you’re doing
    4. Smile, even if it’s fake
    5. Relax

I was both surprised and pleased to see one of my favorite blogs, Brazen Careerist, dedicating an entry to tips for speaking in front of an audience.

Whether you are giving a business presentation in front of a small group of clients or speaking in front of a whole auditorium, it’s essential that you internalize the basics of public speaking if you want your message to have the necessary impact. To really leave an lasting impression, you have to feel at home in your own skin, capture - and keep! - your audience’s attention, and present your message from a perspective that speaks directly to them and their needs.

    Dear Friends,

I had the honor of being one of a group of select women invited to attend a forum on women in leadership that was held on 20th September in Bochum. This initiative was sponsored by the European Foundation for Regional Development, as well as the Ministry for Generations, Family, Women and Integration in the German state of Northrhine-Westphalia. The day’s objective was to pick the brains of women in leadership positions in order to develop feasible strategies to increase the overall number of women in leadership positions throughout this state.
