Resolutions to Results - Redux
February 20th, 2009 by adminDear Friends,
My research for an update of a tele-session I originally held at the beginning of 2008 led to me the results of a study by Roos Vonk, a Dutch social psychologist associated with the Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. According to her research, we are much more likely to keep resolutions we make in the Spring than those we make at the time most of us traditionally view as a time to make plans for our lives - at or around the New Year. It seems that the increase of sunlight and awakening of nature all around us are both psychologically and physically revitalizing - much more conducive to integrating new habits and attitudes into our lives than winter. By contrast, in the winter - with its long hours of darkness and bare, stark foliage - we are motivated more to cocoon than to break old habits in favor of newer more positive ones. I reason to postpone a tele-coaching session on this subject till a bit later in the year if I ever heard one!
But why change anything about the original tele-session? Aren’t the strategies and tactics you can use to most effectively reach your goals pretty much the same from year to year?
