I love this excellent video because it provides a wonderful overview of what coaching is all about and how it can support you as you achieve your goals.
Coaching goes beyond mere motivation. It’s all about effectively supporting people as they
sort through their dreams
select and prioritizes their ideas
intelligently formulate the corresponding goals
develop an actionable game plan leading to their goals
As a coach, you also inspire people as they strive to apply their talents, skills, and experience more effectively to reach a goal, as well as struggle to stay focused and on course.
I was personally especially inspired by the experts from such varying walks of life providing insight into their take on the subject.
Like many of you, I am a member of several social media sites. And like most people, I ‘ve had to make a concerted effort to define for myself the significance of these media in both my private and professional lives in order to use them as efficiently as possible.
While I enjoy being re-connected to people I knew in high school and college, and like being up-to-date on what’s going on in my extended family, my main objective in using social media is further penetrating my professional brand presence. In my case, that also includes selective access to my more personal side. While some people prefer to keep these two aspects of their life neatly separated, I am well aware that as a coach and trainer only part of what I have to offer professionally can be summed up by focusing solely on objective factors such as experience or knowledge and information. A significant part of the value I add to any business relationship is deeply rooted in the interconnection between my qualifications and my personal qualities. The (potential) clients I want to work with want to be seen as 3-dimensional people, and prefer to work with someone who not only treats them as such, but is also unafraid to present themselves in the same way.
Here is a brief overview of some of the social media I use, and how important I think they are for me professionally:
I’ve always loved the rush of being onstage. I am probably one of the few people who looks back fondly on Easter and Christmas programs at church or school plays in elementary school. I even survived that momentus Easter Sunday I stood on the small stage in the basement of our family church in Steelton, Pennsylvania and realized by the look of maternal horror on my mother’s face that I had begun reciting my sister’s Easter poem instead of my own.
You guessed it: I had learned both our poems by heart….
When I first moved to Germany I worked as an EFL teacher in front of an adult audience for several years. My first professional presentation, however, came back in the late 80’s when I got a job working for a company that developed international brand names for new products, services and companies. The first client meeting I attended was held in English, so - without really warning me beforehand - our managing director decided that I - as the native speaker - should present our proposals to the client. Of course I was nervous! But the natural performer in me kicked in and I put everything I had into making those brand name proposals comes to life - and laid a further cornerstone for my future as a passionate presenter and accomplished presentation skills trainer.
